We spent two hours at the allergists this morning eating lots and lots of peanut butter and let me tell you, Will LOVED it! He gobbled it up each time and always asked for more. The nurses were totally impressed telling me that this was the BEST food challenge ever. Apparently other kids never eat all they are supposed to and typically get peanut butter all over the exam room from pulling it out of their mouth once it sticks on the roof of their mouth. Not Will, he ate and ate and ate with NO REACTIONS!! YAY!
We are officially free of peanut allergies.
So they started with very small amounts giving him more every 5 minutes and after 30 minutes of this (6 doses) they amped it up. The last one was seriously this ice cream bowl full of peanut butter (it kind of grossed me out and I LOVE peanut butter). But alas, Will ate every last bite and asked for more! haha
loving this!
yummmm
more please!
happy boy, free of peanut allergies (which makes for a very happy Mommy and Daddy!)
And in celebration, I bought him peanut m&m's on the way home since he had NEVER had them! :)
The doctor did say that we need to expose him to peanuts at least once a week because if we totally avoid it 8-10% of kids will get the allergy back. No problem...we love our peanut butter!

Great news!!!!
ReplyDeleteYEAH!! I LOVE the pictures of him eating the peanut butter!! Only in this situation would you actually let him eat THAT MUCH of it. : ) I'm SOO happy you don't have to worry about that anymore!
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to have Gabi actually tested for peanut allergies now. My mom thinks they may have accidentally exposed her last week and she didn't react so I want to know for sure whether she is or isn't allergic ... maybe she is like Will and reacted earlier but now is over it.
